Yes, probaby, and sure, but at least it's not yet another retelling of the Alamo. Although with Gemmel novels, it's a bit like AC/DC songs. Sure, one might not be your favorite, but other people might not even be able to tell the difference…

A pretty good analogy as I would be quite incapable of naming an AC/DC song, let alone distinguish between them... :)

Hello Kitty does have a distinctive umbrella... but she doesn't have a 4-color armband... so that's out.

Oh... hang on. I had to look it up to make sure I was remembering it correctly... she's the Battleship Yamato from Kantai Collection.


That was crazy obscure. If it wasn't for the umbrella and armband clues I'd never have even remembered that anime existed.

That was fast !

I was going to stat one of the destroyers, but Yamato was more recognizable.
The game is... addictive. I only saw bits of the anime, I found them on Steam but haven't had time to watch them yet.

I thought the ST would be the main clue to be honest, not the mast and Z-flag.

That was certainly an outlier... but it was such a specific ST I was struggling to place it. It was "armband" and "umbrella" that triggered actual character images to come to mind.

The next character I was going to mention (and also dismiss) was Hibiki Ryōga (P-chan) from Ranma 1/2... as he also carried an umbrella and had a distinctive (two-color head)band.

I was trying to think if I knew any females with military experience and umbrellas... and then I remembered those "girls as warships and airplanes" animes a friend tried to get me to watch, and that one of them had an armband†... and probably 1000+ ST.


† Which I always thought was some flag code... and it is! It's the "Z flag", nowadays used to indicate Zulu Time (along with other flags) but it had a different meaning (for the Japanese) back when the Yamato flew it during it's final mission. When flown alone it meant "The fate of the Empire rests on the outcome of this battle. Let each man do his utmost."
