Default Epic Halfling win?

I was playing Epic Munchkin last week with some friends and a friend of mine (a lvl 19 halfling) played, out of his hand, the Level 3 The Mighty Germ. The note attached to this particular monster is "Halflings can just stomp it, killing it automatically, regardless of its level."

My question is this, if used attempting to win the game (out of his hand), are there any ways to stop him? While it is automatically killed, I argued since it was played out of his hand, I could play a wandering monster to join the party. While he would still "kill" The Mighty Germ, shouldn't he have to complete the combat now that a second monster is involved?

The argument from my friend was that the word "automatically" ends the combat, and nothing can be played to prevent him. However, being the owner of the deck, I ruled that wandering monsters could (and should) be played to prevent a win.

Thoughts?

You can add a wandering monster to any combat. While the Germ is dead and its levels don't count, combat continues with the new monster and various things can be done to it. If he didn't defeat the new monster, then he wouldn't get any levels or treasures.

Whether he played it out of his hand or found the Monster kicking down the door, and regardless of whether he was going to win the game, he must still give everyone an opportunity to stop him from winning the combat. Yes, the Monster is killed automatically and immediately, but that does not mean that there isn't something you couldn't do to stop him from winning the combat (and the game), like playing a Wandering Monster, or cursing him to lose a Level. As long as you don't try to play cards which would modify or duplicate the Monster that was eliminated, you're on the right track.

I know MM already answered but this is covered in the FAQ. Perhaps direct your friend to read the FAQ or print it and keep a copy with the game rules.
