Tying it into W23is a nice idea ad it has another benefit.
Any of the other games it sells could with publisher permission be added and the login and accounting part is already in place.
The rest of the VTT could be planned ot make use of most of those games without a lot of duplication of work, though some might require quite a bit.
And imagine things liek Virtual Munchkin or many of the other card games.
Illuminati online? yes please!

You mention "sign into your hangout". There's a problem there. Some of us will not join social networking sites that rely on collecting and exploiting information about us.

I didn't get the feeling that the intention was to require you to be part of Google Hangouts to participate, but rather to set it up so you could go through Hangouts to get to it. I think the former would be too restrictive and potentially put too much power in another company's hands.

If you're going to have character sheets in the VTT, you should also have campaigns. What do I mean? The ability to limit what resources are available to the player. The GM can limit the books, templates, and traits that the player can access. For example, in a supernatural horror campaign, only mundane and supernatural traits would be allowed; exotic ones would not.

Responding to a forum thread, I break out Excel again and look at Deceptive Attack with an editable spreadsheet (which you may download and play with if you like).

The answer surprised me, in that the answer was 'there's no simple answer."

This has been done before by several of us. If you leave in a comment to your version of the same post, I'll edit it in later. :-)

Doug, you don't "break out Excel" Excel breaks out you. You've ALWAYS got a spreadsheet open. Don't lie. ;-)

Excel is my chew toy. In Soviet Russia . . . I still break Excel, but I do it with a bad accent.

I won't lay odds on me always having a spreadsheet open or near to hand, though.

Made a small error in yesterday's post, so I went all-out to beat this into the ground. I mean really, really excessive.

But I came to an answer that both satisfied me mathematically as well as being in synch with what Peter has observed in something like 50 sessions of play in his current campaign, and doubtless many more previously: Deceptive Attack is what you do when you're awesome, but you probably don't want to forgo the impact of critical hits by bringing your skill down below 16.

My most mathy player says 15 or 16, too. Based on lots of combats.
