Octopi
Octopi! One of my very favorite “monsters”!
I have to use them in my game, but does anyone know of a company that makes Octopi miniatures? |

Re: Octopi
I also have a fascination with them (wielding swords!) in TFT. I think the only place I was ever able to find some were -- I think -- Johnny Lauck's Mega Miniatures, 10 or 15 years ago. He sold his molds off years ago. Turnkey Miniatures (turnkeyminiatures.com) took most of the animal molds, I think, but octopus doesn't come up in a search of their site.
Best bet might be to look in a craft store or Target for those plastic "educational sets" of pre-painted animals, like the TOOBS by Safari Ltd. Those are often a great source of animals, trees and foilage that are sometimes (but not always) in scale. The downside is that you might have to buy an entire "Sea Life" Toob just to get one octopus. But you might get some other gems as well.

Re: Octopi
Well, I suppose a Shoggoth might, sort of... But on the other hand, a Shoggoth would probably have a ST of over 100.

Re: Octopi
The only shoggoth miniatures I've found are far too big and amorphous to use as octopi.

Re: Octopi
I might say this is one of several reasons I'm not a big fan of minis. With flat pieces you can fairly easily draw up what you need, or a game maker can fairly cheaply do so.
With minis, to have enough to cover various encounters sufficiently, it requires a *lot* of work, money, and space, and if terrain is considered, it is a full on modeling adventure, which is just too, too much effort for regular play, for our group. |
