Default indescribable horror attack at start

First time poster, short time listener.

If you get a Unspeakably Awful Indescribable Horror monster (door) card mear the begining of the game would you almost certainly die?
You wouldn't have enough strength to defeat it and it has no "ignores below level" on it.
It's probable no one has enough power to defeat it added to your own as well.
Is it just chance you could die right away if you were unluckly in the run-away die?
That doesn't seem fun!

I have the 1st edition, 22 printing, if that matters.

You have a 2 out of 3 chance of death, yes.

Thankfully, death isn't really all that bad in a Munchkin game. Your neighbours will get a slight boost looting stuff off your corpse, but you get a whole new hand on your next turn with 4 new Doors and Treasures to improve your character.

In fact death can sometimes be a good thing, just played a game yesterday where my cousin died at level 7, but on his next turn he ended up having more items and combat level than he had before his death.

Players in my group have actually taken to shooting for "death" as their Bad Stuff because they know they will retain their level, race, class, ect and theyll get a second shot at good items and cards to play. I believe one person facing multiple monsters, each with rather wounding Bad Stuff, used a Loaded Die to make his runaway attempt a fail so he could die and avoid losing levels to other monsters.

This can be a really good strategy if you don't have any good items in play or cards in hand.
