Very cool! And very similar to a project I'm working on (although it has been on the back burner for quite a while.) I was considering using 28mm models, using GW mostly Space Marines and Eldar with Imp. Guard for the unarmored troops. Given that the Battlesuit map is 24" x 36" I think 28mm should be fine.
