Becoming Familiar
Any class 3 Servant (Reliever, Imp, Gremlin) can be bought as a class 4 Servant - a Familiar.
There are multiple ways to acquire a Servant - Will-Wars and Geases come to mind - But what's involved in an upgrade to Familiar? The base book gives the differences as a Familiar has a Vessel, and the superior can impose their Discord on the Familiar. It's pretty easy for a Sorcerer to give a spirit a body; rather than use the cumbersome Vessel creation rules on p48 CPG, just exorcise the spirit to Limbo and feed it essence. Is a Vessel enough to create a Familiar? If not, then it would make the CPG rules useful (as they are titled 'Familiar Creation') as a way for Sorcerers to get Familiars. Whether it is or not, it doesn't help Celestials very much -especially as the most useful place to have Familiars in the Celestial Realms. Angels of Fire, Lightning and Trade would all find Familiars useful for powering Attunements (Smite, Generator, and Head of a PIN respectively) and this is an obvious way to recruit new relievers into Heaven's organisation: this costs 1-3 cp if you get your Superior to handle it but there is no way that overworked Superiors can handle every spirit that wants to sign on. Demons can acquire Servants via Will-Wars, but angels don't currently have a Servant acquisition mechanism. Thoughts? |

Re: Becoming Familiar
some Angels have children... which would reflect why theirs less relievers then demonlings
beyond that, they can, humbly request a servant from their superior most likely if they have the CP to spend and theirs any eager young relievers available... or enough spare forces to manufacture such a reliever... the request will be granted. |

Re: Becoming Familiar
Hadn't considered Eli's reliever creation attunement, thanks.
*Is* there a difference in numbers at the spirit level? It's canon that there are more demons than angels, due to Lucifer's deliberate choice to make demons at 7 Forces rather than the angelic 9; but that should mean that there are more relievers than infernal spirits, rather than the other way around. AAs are incredibly busy; requiring them to deal with matters like this would be impractical, particularly with Superiors who are out of commission (frex Eli and Gabriel). Especially given that it would mean that demons, embodiments of selfishness, would be co-operating better than their selfless opponents. |
