Default I need tips on how to win a fight in fantasy.

I expect to have a fight with a swordsman sometime in our campaign. I have Broadsword 22. My opponent is likely 26 (from what I can gather from the GM's input). He also just lost an eye.

I suspect our speeds are similar at 7.00. My dexterity and other combat skills are probably better than his, brawling 17, dexterity 15, knife 16.

We have a house rule, if you step or move on your turn, you cannot retreat defend.

I was thinking of waiting for him to step in to attack me, then on my turn I could step into close combat and grapple or attack with a knife, but I was reading that he can still parry with his sword.

I'm just not sure how to negate his weapon, which is going to beat me if I go toe to toe, sword vs sword.

Tips?

Cheat? The best way to beat someone who is superior to you at x, is to not make the fight x.

This is my character. I don't know if it will be a fair sword fight for points. But I'm thinking it can end up an "anything goes" kind of fight. The person who proposed I fight this guy said he thought I could win because I was willing to "cheat". So I expect that to be my strategy, anything goes. I just don't know what "anything" can be within the Gurps rules.

Sounds like you might have a Per bonus on him so Sleight of Hand or Fast Draw (Knife) and Thrown Weapon (Knife) for a Ruse.
Also if he does have one eye try to stay on his blindside.

We don't typically use rules outside of Basic. So I don't know if our GM will go for a Ruse. How would that work anyway? I don't really understand the ruling. It sounds like his defense is whatever he wants:

"His opponent can choose to resist with a Per-based skill roll
(which represents being wary), a standard DX-based roll (to
get his weapon back in position), or his Tactics skill."

A Ruse is basically an IQ-based Feint, rather than a DX-based one, which I'd likely call a Quick Contest of your Tactics vs his best combat skill. The idea is that you're tricking the opponent into reducing his active defenses. (There's also what's called a Beat, which is an ST-based Feint, basically pounding the defenses aside.)

IDHMBWM ATM, so can someone double-check Martial Arts to make sure I'm getting it right with how Feints in general (and hence Ruses and Beats) work?

Is he overconfident? Can you taunt him? Is he larger than you? What’s his fighting style? Does he specialize in hitting a particular part of the body that you can armor?

Slam him so he falls to the ground. Then curb-stomp him.

If you're a more rounded warrior, can you bring a ranged weapon in to play?
