TV tie-in for GURPS Hot Spots: Renaissance Florence
Tonight, on the National Geographic channel, there was a show called Secrets of Florence. It discussed the rulers, artists, and thinkers of renaissance Florence. Among other things, it showed the half-mile-long passage that Cosmo MeDici used to move through the city without having to mingle with the commoners and even his own servants.
When I saw it was on, I immediately thought of GURPS Hot Spots: Renaissance Florence. If you're interested in the subject, you might want to catch that show. |

Re: TV tie-in for GURPS Hot Spots: Renaissance Florence
And for anyone needing a further fix, Netflix has just released Medici: Master of Florence, a dramatization of Cosimo's early career as head of the Medici bank. It suffers from a variety of niggling issues (the architectural history is off, the women are criminally if predictably underused, and you're telling me a city of tens of thousands only has one apothecary?), but the pictures are pretty and Dustin Hoffman is interesting as Giovanni. It may be more accessible for players trying to get into the look and feel of the place than a documentary.
