Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
I've thought about that before. I play Ogre, GEV, and literally nothing else from SJG (other than Castellan). Thus, I'd never be a candidate as a MIB -- but if there were just Ogre-pushers, that would be feasible.

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
We'd probably have better luck with an all SJG event. That would bring in the Munchkinites, the Car Warriors, the Ogreists and the Illuminati as well as a few others. That should fund at least a two day event maybe three especially if you did it when the weather gets cold and the snowbirds fly

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
I suppose calling it "OGRE Organized Play Show" would be contraindicated.... :)

43Supporter, I hereby curse you to think of the "Go, Go, Gophers" theme over and over... Edit: Seriously though, I've been swayed by everyone's opinion. OGRECON is a no-go as it's too ambitious. But I will run volunteer events at cons in Florida (and maybe in the near-Southeast) and try to assist others at larger cons elsewhere. Feel free to PM me for assistance (see my post above on what I can help you with) with any events starting in August.

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
I've been watching this thread with interest.
As is true of many great concepts, it gets honed and refined through the debate of a dedicated group interested in the outcome. I think there is some meat to this idea; keep moving it forward on your own, but if I get a chance to catch my breath, I may see if there is any way I can assist with the endeavor. D.

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
An idea would be for us to announce what conventions we will be running OGRE games at. Then others could say "Ohhh, that's close to me. Hey, man, I'll be there. What could I bring/do to help you?"
If this idea gains traction, maybe there could be a stickeyed thread for people to post in?

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
I believe Ogre organized play events at conventions is a great idea. a group of Ogre players running several games and having a blast doing it is bound to attract attention. The key to Ogre's continued growth is to expand the player base - Cons attract gamers - the perfect audience.
Getting people to try it is the key. Once they do, I believe the simple rule-set and fast play will win converts. I introduced two 16-year-olds to Ogre on a school trip last week. We played several games of Mk III Attack with my O6E set. They had never heard of Ogre or hex & counter strategy games. While playing with 2 Mk III's vs defenders, one of the kids blurted out "this is better than video games!" Precisely the audience and reaction we need! I'd be willing to attend, play & help at nearby Cons ( insane work schedule permitting). |

As to the con: I happen to know quite a few SMoFs ("Professional Con-Runners", for lack of a better description); questions could be subtly asked....

Re: Would You Support/Organize an OGRE Con?
Just a thought and if it's inappropriate Admin please delete but since there are two very active FB pages dedicated to Ogre which probably gets more hits daily than the forums, the thoughts you've had regarding posting Ogre events should go there.
