The other side of the 'treat the hirelings like dirt' coin is that all hirelings have a sell-by date. That is, in all probability, the portable meat-shield, torch-bearer, and trap-checker doesn't think of himself that way.

The Cavalry has an epic battle with the primary season 1 foe in the epic conclusion to the story arc. We learn what happens when you actually take time to plan, and we take down the bad guys in spectacular fashion. Too spectacular in some cases, which will have some repercussions later.

Thursday is GURPSDay, and I take a conversation I had about the No School Grognard 'Better Fantasy Armor' design system and start tweaking. For campaigns more realistic than DF, I like where it ended up.

Almost too late, but here's my Sunday Review, where I continue to work my way through the GURPS Action series. Action 3 adds martial arts mayhem - and parkour! - to the genre treatment of Action cinema. Lots of advice on how to keep a hand-to-hand hero alive in a world of guns, too.

This week's return to the Reloading Press highlights the classic rimfire cartridge: the .22LR. One of the most popular in the world, it sees use in applications ranging from target practice to targeted assassination.

Little-known tidbit: the Kevlar 129 and 149 ballistic weaves were designed both for comfort and also for enhanced resistance against this tiny bullet! (Source - personal conversation with the designer back in 1992 or so)

Powerful supers characters are great . . . but you have to play them right, and for The Commander in the Aeon campaign, I wasn't. The key? Less Captain America, more Batman. Because as the phrase goes, be yourself, unless you can be Batman.

This review of Action 4: Specialists concludes my review of the entire Action series. In brief, this is a fantastic concept for quick-building characters and NPCs that deserves to be expanded into every worked-example line. It's that good, with exploitable elements for any modern action-oriented campaign, even realistic ones.

The Reloading press examines the M309/10x24mm cartridge that is serving with the Colonial Marines all over the quadrant.
