Default How many maps do you use?

I'm really asking two questions:

1. Without looking up all of the scenarios, how many GEV-style maps have you ever used for one game? I would think that a 1 x 2 map game wouldn't be unusual, nor would a 2 x 2 map game (although this might take a long time to play). I remember scenarios (at least one) that had a 1 x 3 map setup. Has anyone actually played a 2 x 3 (or 3 x 2) map game, or a 3 x 3 map game, or know of any scenarios using such a huge area?

I'm thinking about making an adjustable "frame" for the mapboards . . . (maybe I'm just nuts) and am looking for a maximum size.

2. It is very cold here right now (about 0 degrees F. or -18 degrees C.) and I don't want to go out in my cold storage and dig out my Ogre DE box to measure the GEV mapboards. Can anyone tell me the actual dimensions (in inches)?

I can count the hexes and calculate that they should be close to 33.0 x 28.578 inches and I found a copy of the ODE "sell sheet" that gave the dimensions as 32.4 x 28.2 inches. I guess if I have to I'd trust the sell sheet, but I'd like to really know.

Don't worry about decimals -- something like "32 and 5/16s" would be good enough.

I was inspired by a project by "siredblood" where he built a table or frame for his Axis and Allies maps, see here. This will probably take me 4-6 months, but if/when I get thru, I'll fully document it and make it available for all to use as they see fit.

Thanks,
Bowser

An Ogre orange map half measures just about 16 and 15/16" by just over 20 and 7/8" (but not quite 15/16"). Or decimally, 16.90" x 20.90"

A green GEV map half measures 16 and 7/16" by just under 28 and 7/16". (Decimal, 16.4375" x 28.4").

If you count each half of a green map as 1, then I have run a game on a 3 x 3 board. There were four players, each got an Ogre, some armor, and some cruise missile crawlers. I just used office binder clips to hold the map sections together.

I've used enough of the GEV board to run 4x6 and one time a 10x10. I have a 3 x 6 always set up in one area of the man cave in case I get a the itch or I'm working on a scenario.

"Salvage" in Scenario Book 2 uses a 2 x 2 map setup for the 5-9 player scenarios. I've only done that for playtesting so far, though there's hopes for setting up a 9-player game later this year.
