Default Question about clerical magic

Hi,

Both GURPS Magic and GURPS Thaumatology says that clerical magic spells have no prerequisite (except Power investiture level).

But some spells have non-spells prerequisite (es. IQ 12+, Empathy advantage, Astronomy skill 15+, Literacy in one language, ecc..), do you think that a Cleric can learn this spell even without those kind of prerequisites?

Yes, note that most of those are listed as alternate prerequisites. Only a few like literacy for scrolls are actual prerequisites and those I would tend to keep.
Case by case basis.

This, I think, is one of those things that comes down to a discussion between you and your GM over what the deity granting the spell will permit. Some deities may see the prerequisites as necessary; for example, Apollo, Hermes, or Odin, being gods of knowledge, may see prerequisites of literacy in a language or a particular IQ-based skill as necessary for them to grant the spell. Other deities that are more primal - Artemis comes to mind - would be willing to eschew those same prereqs... if Artemis even grants the spell in the first place!

So, if Astrological Divination has the skill Astronomy 15+ as a prerequisite do you think that a Cleric of, for example, the titan Uranus would anyway require that trait as a prerequisite?

Yes. At least almost always. The god can provide. For example even if you are illiterate the god can guide your hand to write a translation.

Hey gods can make any arbitrary rule they want. That being said, I'd actually tend to go with making Astronomy one of the prerequisites for the Clerical Investment itself rather than the specific spell.

This is a good explanation, i think it can apply to almost any Clerical spell, thanks
