I just read the Wikipedia article. That was quite a contentious violent jerks all around mess. It looks like it would be hard to write up without ticking off those pro one side or even both.

I would just include a section with the bare facts about the incident, the main characters, and a few adventure ideas. Most of the book would be general info about area during the time of the Gold Rush.

10th century Denmark. Last half of the century. It'd be an excellent tie-in with GURPS Vikings. Lots of stuff going on there, with interesting NPCs, and huge dramatic potential.

Ohh, yes.

We have at least one US Senator removed (in practice) from office due to an armed attack by a representative. (See Charles Sumner.)

We have at least one Northern Senator who put a loaded sawed-off shotgun in his desk on the floor of the US Senate in case another Southron got the same idea.

Lots of intrigue to go around. Also more prosaic conflicts -- for example, the adultery of Mrs. Daniel Sickles and the son of Francis Scott Key. (Led to the first acquittal on grounds of insanity in the USA.)

Remember most modern cruise liners are actually easier to sink than the long-lamented RMS Titanic.
