It is extreme to say it's genetic rather than individuals adapting. And certainly no evidence that every other genetic difference is how they're adapted to diving.
I agree though that it works for gaming.

The enlarged spleen is common to members of the tribe who don't dive as well, militating against it being na individual adaptation. Also, IIRC from a different article the genes in question have been (probably) identified.

Well that's quite literally nightmare fuel.

They were so busy wondering if they could, they didn’t stop to wonder if they should....

There's a certain amount of hype here, contrary to what one of the interviewees said, there's actually a world of difference between 'some cells alive' and 'the organ is still alive'.

That said, there are obvious possibilities here that are both horrific and hopeful...well down the road. The scary part is the twists in the road on the way there.

They do need to be thinking about the 'shoulds' as well as the 'coulds'.

Making any part of a brain survive longer after decapitation that it otherwise would... My claim of literal nightmare fuel stands.

OK, this probably qualifies as real-life weirdness, and I could just about imagine gaming applications, too:

Zero to 100 in a shed

Sort of self-explanatory, but in essence, a mobile self-powered shed.

Ideal for your After The End culture of nomadic road-warrior Tinkers. "Last of the BillyOh 5000s. Would've been a shame to blow it up."

"We are looking into the reports that the system mentioned zombies. I want to reiterate that Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and apologize for the system message."

Officials in Lake Worth, Florida, would like you to know there are no zombies roaming their streets _ despite a middle-of-the-night alert that residents received warning of "extreme zombie activity."
