Default Ogre/GEV counter sheets

My next question concerning counter sheets is deceptively simple: how many counter sheets were included in the first two iterations of Ogre/GEV?

I refer here to the first version, in the flimsy box with the orange cover, and the second version, in the sturdier box with the black cover. The counter sheet(s) included had an unusual 187 counters. (I found pictures of both sides.)

The back of the second box said that 374 counters were included, which would mean two identical sheets, but in one of the BGG forums someone who opened up a presumably new box reported only one counter sheet, with respondents saying that the one sheet was sufficient for all the scenarios. The picture I have of this edition also shows only one sheet.

Again, the Ogre history is mostly silent.

So... one sheet or two? Was the box in error?

The sheet, incidentally, has no fewer than 32 Ogres, four each of Mark III and Mark V in four different color schemes, each Ogre backprinted in the same colors with the Ogre of the other type. Two sheets would mean 64 Ogres! Imagine 16 Mark V Ogres barreling down on your hapless position...

[Note that the 2000 edition, in the box with the green cover, had three identical 112-counter sheets; this sheet is also found in the Ogre Reinforcements set which can be purchased as a digital download at Warehouse 23.]

Thanks,
Phil

I'll have to review what I have. Stay tuned...

The 187 isn't all that unusual, just unique to that box (I remember thinking it was a bigger sheet than I was used to seeing when I got it )

I don't have an unpunched set, but going off the quantity of red/white Ogres I have, I'm 95% sure it's only a single sheet. I also find it unlikely the Black Box version had two counter sheets, but that's one that I don't have (and not likely to spend $100 to get it)

...and the multicolored Ogres are not the grouping you think. They are actually Mark V/IV and Mark III/II counters, not Mark V/III.

So each color (B/W, W/B, R/W, W/R) can field a maximum of 4 of any given Mark, but could do something like 4xMark V + 4xMark III, or 2x Mark V + 2x Mark IV + 2x Mark III + 2x Mark II.

I stand corrected. Things got a little blurry on magnification, and the Ogre counters are indeed backed with Mark II and Mark IV. But you could still have 12 Ogres of one type going after you (the three colors that aren't yours). Not counting other sets that might be available, and you know how players like extra counter sheets... :O

I regard the 187 counters as unusual as all of the other SJG counter sheets before the 6th edition have 112 or the equivalent when one considers half-size counters and train counters. (The Pocket Edition has 70 per sheet and the Classic Counters 88 per sheet. But they are nicely mounted, which is cool.) I don't count the Deluxe Edition.

Yeah, there is that little problem, although hopefully they are fighting each other, too. :-)
