What DF has isn't rules so much as a notation for traps, which could be fairly broadly applicable (for example, grenades attached to tripwires, alarms and security doors triggered by laser sensors, etc.).

That said, the need for a detailed notation for traps may be sufficiently concentrated within dungeon-delving fantasy that a better use could be found for that page or so.

Vietcong tunnels. Meth labs. Villainous death traps. Baroque assasination attempts from James Bond to Ninjas. Crazy Old Man Jenkins protecting his collection of old newspapers.

I totally acknowledge this isn't as universal as "how do I swing a stick", but it's easily as applicable as "explosives", which get some seriously loving detail in the Basic Set.

The way that Surprise is expanded in Tactical Shooting and some other places (with a successful Ambusher actually ambushing instead of being surprised too!) could probably augment the Surprise rules in the Basic Set. IME successful Ambushes are the most common surprise situation as opposed to the "Werewolves in the Library!" Total Surprise, and the "Two Patrols notice Each Other at The Same Time!" Partial Surprise. The Basic Set really ought to have the rules for them.

EDIT: Okay. Ya'll win on Traps. I was thinking exclusive in terms of EVIL DEATH RUNES and Swinging Scythe Blades. Sorry.

EDIT2: Get away from my newspapers, you-hoo! I'm watching you. o_O

Disagree; the Infinite Worlds stuff is completely useless in the Basic Set. Sure, include sample characters, monsters, etc, but there's no need to specifically utilize the IW setting or even discuss it in any detail; GURPS is much happier with no 'default' setting, and I think the Basic Set should reflect that.

Oh, I loves me some EVIL DEATH RUNES. And any trap with spikes on it is equally \m/ metal \m/ (guitar riff) but I love them wherever I can justify them.

Cut down on the amount of IW stuff.
Reprice certain advantages.
Include Illusion, Energy Reserve, and Vitality Reserve in the basic set.
Add some of the stuff from Skill Categories

Me too, that's why I gots them on the brain.

Of course they don't seem to keep people away from my newspapers. Which is why I need the claymore.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. :/

None of this is DF-specific, and nuts to IW. Buy the genre book; you already have to if you actually want to use it. This half-baked taste isn't worth the space, and the surveys were against including a genre in the Basic Set anyways.

More generic foes, and give them statted attacks. The guide for a good list is the chapter for this in Savage Worlds.

.22, small pipe, nail... Step on my home made mine! Enjoy walking with a hole in your foot. And now that you're down, it'll be easy to pick you off. Newspapers safe, Jenkins!
