Axes of Evil Question

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else on the forum - I could not find an answer however.

In a recent game of Munchkin, player A had the Axes of Evil equipped as their only "item" Player B hit player A with a Curse loose 1 small item card. Player A argues that it had no effect because the Axes of Evil do not have a gold amount or a No Value text - which according to the rules makes it NOT an item at all. Clearly this being something that takes up 2 hands it is meant to be an item. I ruled that it was in fact an item. Which I am sure is the correct answer - but that leads me to my question...

How much are the Axes worth? I took a sharpie and inked in 700 Gold Pieces this afternoon. If there is no official answer then I was wondering what other people would consider them worth.
