Default Quantum 2 mongooses

How would Homeline react to discovering a world of magic using, high tech anthropomorphic mongooses (because mongooses are my favorite critters, not turtles) on Quantum 2, with Projectors and Conveyors?

Step 1: Gather intelligence.

Step 2: Continue Step 1 as long as possible.

Step 3: When Step 1 is no longer viable, begin negotiations.

Step 1 might be problematic just from the get-go. Do you dress your explorers in mongoose fur-suits and have them go downtown? Even drones might not escape detection from a late TL8 society for long, especially one with magic.

Of course not. You gather intelligence on their off-world activity where you blend in and they don't. Of course the real problem the herpestidae pose is that simply by operating off-world they blow the secret since they can't operate covertly.

They would have had a similar problem fitting in on Lizardia, minus the magic.

Really, if humans have parallel worlds from different historical choices/events, presumably said mongoose civilization does as well...

Magic also allows for illusions and transformations, at least on worlds that allow the magic in question.

The real question is what happens when Mongooseworld stumbles on a timeline of high-tech magic using cobras.

I think we get better results if we look at it from the other angle: What would happen if homeline found infinite alternate timelines and they were all inhabited by an different species? That's got to warp the way you look at the world. Why is every thing but us this other species?

They could chalk it up to their species being unique and special. They could dig deep in archeology for what made them different. Or perhaps its evidence that the other species previously had a cross time empire.

The true answer probably won't come easy. The theories they come up with deal with it and the ones they choose to embrace are the most interesting part.

They'd refer it to the experts at Infurryty Inc.
