Re: [Powers] Drain-Tanking in GURPS (Leech+HP as offence AND defence)
Ah, must've been either a houserule or a mistake.

Re: [Powers] Drain-Tanking in GURPS (Leech+HP as offence AND defence)
Leech isn't great as a fast-paced combat power. It is great when combined with a few other powers though. Obscure (defensive), Binding (area effect, emanation, engulfing, unbreakable), and Leech make for one really powerful combo.
Basically, any ability that protects the user and immobilizes the target are better for leech than adding ranged/malediction. |

Does Leech / Vampiric Bite not require a maneuver to use? I only had a ranged maledicition leech actually be used in combat, but I always assumed both to need one attack dedicated to their draining effect. As an example, if a vampire bites someone, wanting to drain him, I saw it as: 1. Turn: Vampire grapples his victim successfully 2. Turn: Vampire bites his victim. 3. Turn: Vampire drains level in Vampiric Bite HP from his target. 1. and 2. could be done in one using the rules for teeth and grappling from Martial Arts, but otherwise, is this not the correct method to handle it? Would it be instead the following? 1. Vampire grapples his victim. 2. Vampire Bites his victim, he starts draining HP. 3. Vampire keeps his grapple and bite, thus drains HP but uses his maneuver to cast a spell he does not need words or gestures for (as an example) If so, does that also apply to malediction leech? If it does, it actually starts to be a rather attractive damaging tool. The fact that it specifically states there is a quick contest per turn and that there is no mention of breaking the contact, I think it more likely that the intend is to have it be a separate attack each turn in both cases. After all, the idea of a vampire feeding usually is not that he hangs on the victim and keeps doing other stuff as he drains him / her... |
