House, M.D., what mental disads does he have?
What mental disads does Gregory House, from "House, M.D." have?
I've given it some thought, and can't seem to decide on anything real. Is he Callous, for instance? Evn if he is, is it just that, or is there a 2nd disad? And does Callous even fit? (Note that if he does not have Callous, he seems to want everybody to assume that he does.) Please, everyone, do your best to avoid spoilers for later seasons, as I'm just about to start watching season 4. |

Re: House, M.D., what mental disads does he have?
Well, I'm not sure what the value of the exercise is, but:
He clearly has a 10 point or so drug addiction. He is severely Curious; in order to solve puzzles he will break the law, risk his job and sometimes his life, and often the lives of others. Stubbornness is pretty certainly on there. He has probably a 5 point code of honor, albeit an incredibly warped and screwed up one that wouldn't be easily quantified for game purposes. |

Re: House, M.D., what mental disads does he have?
Haven't seen many episodes, and it's probably mostly season 1 and 2...
I'll seconds Addiction (Painkillers) and Curious. I disagree on Stubborn, since once he verifies he's wrong he promptly admits it and moves on immediately to another hypothesis. He seems stubborn because he's usually right (that's his thing). I'll add OPH (Blunt), probably -2 to reactions. Overconfident with a good self-control number might account for his apparent stubbornness and the unwise situations he puts himself in. There's probably more, but my memory is hazy, it's been a while since I've watched it. |

Obsession(Solve every puzzle) would probably the need to find answers to the mystery without causing the side effects of stubbornness.
I'd go with the OPH over Overconfident mostly since he actually does know what he is talking about. |

Re: House, M.D., what mental disads does he have?
Definitely Callous, there's probably a case for both Bad Temper and Bully, Curious at the highest level, OPH: Abhorrent Behavior, a certain amount of Sadism (limited to Mental Torture, -20%), some level of OPH: Misogyny, Lame (Crippled Leg), Trickster, definitely Addiction (Painkillers), Intolerance: Everybody, Lecherousness, possibly Alcoholism, Paranoia and probably a few more I'm missing, maybe even some degree of Solipsism.
About his only redeeming trait is that he appears to follow his own twisted COH: Hippocratic Oath According to Gregory House. I'd also throw in some level of Photographic Memory, Intuition, high IQ, Luck, Serendipity and Musical Talent. Cheers, Mike

If he'd cited Adrian Monk, I'd have said that there wasn't enough computer space in the known universe! ;)

Actually monk's disads are easy. he has a negative Modular Abilities that gives him appropriate penalties to whatever happens to be immediately at hand. ;)
