Default Minis: Ogre Mk. III-B question

So in going through my old SJG metal minis, I knew I had a kit of a Mk. III-B in the pile, and upon finding it, I realized it has a III-B front hull (two mains), and a III rear hull (two missiles). I only have III style rear hulls, in fact.

Was there ever a time when the SJG III-B mini was sold with the two missile rear hull, instead of the four missile rear hull?

I don't have one to confirm, but at least the box art for Combine Set 12 had a four-missile rear.

The Mk III-B always had a four-missile rear hull.

Thank you both. Since my metal minis were bought used, I probably got the III-B from someone who mixed up the rear hulls, and I got a III instead of a III-B one.

Not a huge problem, really, as the front half is the harder to kitbash unit.

Does that mean someone else has a III-C? :-)

It does bring up an interesting thought. I wonder if the tech is there in-world to mix and match in extenuating circumstances.

A Combine test mule that is a III with with two extra tubes strapped to the back, or a wounded III-B pushed back into service before it could be properly repaired by strapping the back half of a crippled III to it...

Welp. I think I know what my next short story might be...

I was thinking just for the IIs, not for all the articulated ones. The size difference between III, IV, V, and VI makes that impractical, and a Vulcan / Ninja's specialist systems would rule them out too.

So the design progression is a stock Mk. III; 1MB, 4SB, 2 MSL.

Then they tacked on the new rear end, giving the Mk. III-A; 1MB, 4SB, and 4MSL.

Then the nose got beefed up, and we get the Mk. III-B; 2MB, 4SB, and 4MSL.

Makes perfect sense in an escalating process of yet more weapons.

On a flight of FanMade fancy thinking about what Paneurope would try to do with their damaged OGREs brought back for repairs they engineered a couple unique OGREs using a Fencer and Mark3 chassis for their Manticore and a Doppelsoldner and Mark5 chassis for their Hydra. They were born out of the necessity to leverage and recycle all available war materiel back into the conflict as soon as possible. Thus, when serviceable OGRE front and rear chassis were brought in but there were not any available original counterpart chassis the Manticore and Hydra variants were able to provide a effective remedy to this shortage. They were classified as Composite OGREs.

The Hydra is a fairly final version while the Manticore is still a WIP as far as its Missiles and Missile Racks configurations are concerned.
