Yes. both the fantasy is classic, so dragons and elves, and the book itself is classic.

There isn't any such thing. Books weren't invented until long after the classical era of antiquity had ended. The other classical era, in music, was in the 18th and early 19th century, but you said book not opera. Otherwise there is no generally accepted technical meaning of "classic" that could apply here.

Books with dragons and elves mostly postdate Tolkien's peak of popularity in the 1960s and therefore are late 20th through early 21st century. There are people who regularly post here that are more "classic" then that. :)

To be fair, in popular jargon, "classic" when referring to stories is far different than "classical" (and music has other definitions). "a classic" is used in ways that can mean a memorable antique or an important literary milestone. In the world of modern medieval fantasy, there are very few literary milestones, and some might say only Tolkein's works are such. So... a memorable antique of a modern medieval fantasy written post 1950-something, where pseudo immortality is part of a religion, and the immortals lose joy etc in the bargain.
Can we have another hint? Perhaps the language the book is written in?

Yes, that is my point. This kind of "classic" is totally personal and subjective. I might think that Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice is a fantasy classic, and some of my millennial friends might think that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is but I might feel that Rowling is both too recent and too much of a hack and my friend probably has never heard of Cabell.

<MOD>

This is not the place to debate the meaning of the term "classic." Take it to its own thread, please, so we can guess characters here.

Yes, thats what i mean.
The book is originaly english, but translated to many languages.
And, although the setting is classic, the specific book where this template appeares is not realy widely known.
Hint? well, this is not essential, but many of the characters with this template also have lecherousness.

At what point is it appropriate to post new characters (or close out old ones that haven't been guessed yet)?

By the last count, four characters are still open and four months have passed since the last attempt.

I've got a fairly simple character but I'm reluctant to bring the number of orphans up to five.
