That's an excellent age to introduce kids to RPGs.

My 14-year-old daughter has been playing a few different systems for a few years now, but she had the advantage of being raised by two diehard gamer parents (and just last month she became a second-generation GM, running for a few other teens).

When my niece was 10 or so I ran a couple of games of Toon for her and a couple of her friends. My wife says they still talk about it to this day.

There's a Dresden Files (Fate) freebie adventure (and a simple one), "Night Fears", about a group of teenagers spending the night in a haunted house. Intended to be run either as horror, or more appropriately for this case, a mystery. The puzzle in this case would be how to put the ghosts to rest.

I ended up running Land of Og. The characters ended up failing to save their tribe from a hungry dinosaur and a hostile tribe, but they did rescue one caveboy and made friends with a tribe of baboons. Only one player character got eaten by a dinosaur. And the food and water they managed to procure for the tribe ended up being useless.

The girls really had a hard time with the whole "You can't talk to each other" part of the game. But at least one of them asked to play again when it was over, so it was probably a win.
