Default Modern day Where Eagles Dare

The mission: plot from Where Eagles Dare.

A time machine can take 4 modern day soldiers back to WW2 to carry out the mission.

Who do you take and what weapons & equipment would you carry?

I'm no expert but I'd probably use 4 specialists from Seal Team 6. With a cross skill set of Demolitions, Sniping etc.

Weapons wise probably mostly stealth stuff like suppressed:

HK 416 - 5.56 x 45mm carbine (Assault)
HK MP7 - 4.6 x 30mm sub machine gun (Assault)
McMillan TAC-338 (Sniper)

Exfil using a Black Hawk

The purpose of that mission was to make the traitors list their agents and to expose Turner. So you’re pretty much forced to take the suspects along. What cover story are you supposed to tell them about time travellers and equipment from the future?

Or since future guys know who the traitor is and, presumably, have the list of double agents he wrote, the mission is basically solved before it begin.

Also, given the amount of post-war gear in that movie, I think we can assume time -traveller were already involved :)

But when all is said and done, they only need one think : dynamite. Lots of dynamite. :)

note : I do like that movie a lot ! Awesome scenery, great music, convoluted scenario, lots of action ... but it does have some slight faults .

If instead you just mean rescuing a sensitive hostage from a mountain fortress, then that's a fairly straitforward mission to plan for. My mind actually goes to a specific Infinite Worlds team I ran a oneshot for that would like this mission (they've done Nazis in a castle before)

The bulk of your men you do want elite fighters for, but you needn't single out the seals: the mission does not require any of the elements they specifically train for, most any special forces soldiers should suffice.

I'd personally throw in a tech guy with some radio equipment, drones, and small cheap recording devices. The drones could just have cameras, or they could sport a grenade or gun. The rest of the team should have body cams and microphones. This guy never sees combat, he watches everyone's back, and he confounds the locals.

I'd like to have a bona fide German speaking native on the team. Actually, a completely German-fluent team would be ideal, but you make do with what you can get.

Night Fighting equipment would be awesome, and not reproducible by the enemy, though if the time restraints forbid it then that's too bad.

I've got mixed feelings on body armor: its nice to have, but it restricts your ability to blend in. Its also likely to be inadequate against the longarms of the era, though it might prove itself if you mainly encounter pistols.

Among US special forces units, Delta Force seems to be the one meant for that sort of thing.

Use a KSK unit of the Bundeswehr.

I'd be very careful about drawing from the modern German special forces community for a critical anti-Nazi operation. There are issues with their reliability on the subject.

Just make sure your German fluent speakers are also fluent in German hand gestures, or they will give themselves away when they order zwei bier, bitte.

Also, they need to be familiar with WWII German, as IIRC there have been a few linguistic changes that might make people suspicious of them (not sure what changes beyond 'I'm pretty sure 'fraulein' isn't used anymore,' but I know that changes have happened).
