GURPS Steampunk : Iron
Is there anywhere, in any book or even fan website, where there’s a longer write up of the timeline Iron from GURPS Steampunk? I really like the setting, but two pages doesn’t give very much info.

If you have specific questions, I might be able to answer them here, and you might get useful speculations from other people. (To be truthful, much of what I could say after all these years would be "what was I thinking again" speculation about my own past ideas.) I'm glad to hear that someone likes the idea. It was intended to go for the grim and gritty "punk" side of steampunk, and to provide an opening for nineteenth-century radicalism of various stripes.

Re: GURPS Steampunk : Iron
Okay, thanks! Here’s my questions.
1. What is the status of France and Russia after the Fashoda War? 2. What can be achieved with the computers of the setting? What can the predictive algorithms of Germany, Japan, and the US reliably predict? 3. What is the Legality Class of general purpose computers? Have any governments tried to limit the availability of them? 4. I’m trying to design the computers using the rules in Steampunk 2. In GURPS 4th edition terms, would you call these computers Tech Level 5+1 or 5+2? That’s all I’ve got so far. I might have more questions, though, if you’re open to them. |

I'll get back to you, but it may be a day or so, between having a load of copy editing to work on, and needing to dig Steampunk out of my bookshelves. I HAVE seen your questions and plan to respond.

Re: GURPS Steampunk : Iron
On a related note, are there plans for a fourth volume of Steampunk, consisting of Steampunk settings? Or maybe an Infinite Worlds supplement with a Steampunk theme? As far as I can tell, that's the one part of the Classic GURPS Steampunk book that hasn't yet gotten a 4e counterpart.

But the best answer I can give here is “I personally am not working on any such book at present.” Yes, Worlds of Steam is a pretty obvious possibility, and the idea has crossed my mind before now. SJGames might want to see how well Steampunk 1-3 sell before deciding what priority to give such a project, and to be honest, given that I’m on royalties, I might want to see the same before putting together a proposal, but it could be done. (On the other hand, Bill’s 3e Steampunk is available on W23, and that’s one section that needs minimal conversion to 4e, so one could say that there was no great rush. On the third hand, Britannica-6 seems to sell moderately okay, if not to Dungeon Fantasy levels...)

Re: GURPS Steampunk : Iron
I've played Phil's Discworld Steampunk demo scenario. It's fun.
