If it is glass, like in Elder Scrolls, I would just use Tempered Glass, since that's pretty obviously what that is for.

If it's "glass", then just use Superfine weapons from Ultratech which would include "Ceramics".
The question isn't "What stats would it have?" it's "Is there any known real substance that would work?" Currently, the answer appears to be "No," because clear things that are durable can't hold an edge and clear things that can hold an edge are brittle. If someone finds a clear substance that is both durable and can hold an edge, then the question will be "What stats should this have?"

The way I see it, crystal/glass/ceramic/whatever sword are gonna be usefull for doing what their metallic counterparts fail to do, not doing what they do, better.

So despite their flaws (or despite being similar to metal), they might be immune to certain hazards, such as the classic rust monster, and better against acid.

Another advantage, is that if you are lets say, operating in a place where metal can be detected, or even manipulate with magic/psi, a crystal sword might bypass that.

Best material ? Diamonds?

Ahh, I get the question now. I reread it with that thought in mind.

Elder Scrolls' glass gear isn't actual glass, it's volcanic crystal.

  1. I don't remember anything in the game that indicates a monocrystal instead of an amorphous solid. Real world obsidian is also volcanic.
  2. Even if it isn't a monocrystal, it still doesn't follow that the Ultra-Tech modifier is more appropriate than the DF 8 modifier.

Mechanically speaking, elder scrolls glass would probably be reduced weight more than increased DR.

Yeah, for weapons I would use Tempered Glass, for armor it should be a weight reduction for any ridgid construction.

But this is a thread about crystal swords.
