League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
A comment in another thread made me think this would be a good topic.
Who would be in a modern "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen"? If we limit it to movies Ash (Army of Darkness) Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China) Indiana Jones is a bit old, unfortunately. Sarah Connor (Terminator, but it would have to be a world threatening event to get her involved) Arnold Schwarzenegger (not sure what role - probably the one from _True Lies_) Derek Flint (In like Flint, Our Man Flint) James Bond (of course) Larua Croft? Jackie Chan (some character, or maybe as himself) If we go with TV shows Thomas Banacek (Banacek) Glen Garth Gregory (The Delphi Bureau) Micheal Knight (Knight Rider. Personally, I found the car annoying, leave it out.) Lt. Columbo (no known first name) Buffy (the vampire slayer) If we go with book series Harry Potter Repairman Jack (The Tomb, & other books) Jack Ryan Obviously, this list isn't complete. But the next step is to create 4th edition versions of these characters. Tom A. |

Re: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
I can go with Ash, James Bond, and Jackie Chan ... even Lara Croft ... but saying that Indiana Jones is too old and Derek Flint -isn't- is downright blasphemy. Flint was just a cheap Bond knock-off anyway. I'd put Arnie in as the Terminator (his most recognizable role apart from Conan) and leave Sarah Connor out, though. And for Kirk Russel, I think Snake from Escape from New York and ...L.A. would be more recognizable than Jack Burton. And remember, if you want Harry Potter, he's in the movies too.
You're also missing an important genre: Pulp Sci-Fi! Luke Skywalker, Capt Kirk (original series, pre-hairpiece days), Flash Gordon ... all important action heroes. |

Re: League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Indiana Jones was born 1900, so he's 104 now. 'Course in the _Young Indiana Jones_ stories, he's shown as still young enough at heart to slide down a railing, and beat up an annoying coffee shop clerk with his cane.....
Derek Flint I sort of consider like James Bond - ageless (although to be truthful, he's more in the 60's than today.) James Bond learned skiiing before WWII, so if we want to be pendantic, he could get eliminated too. But Indiana is shown as aging - which is a rare thing for a fictional character. But I'm planning on a modern-day + magic campaign, and was thinking that some of these characters might show up.... Tom A. |

Ah, I see ... so they all have to be alive and well on 21st Century Earth. I didn't see the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, so I wasn't quite sure what you were going for.
Keep in mind, though, that Indy drank from the Holy Grail ... he might be showing his age in 2004, but it was able to keep that knight alive for hundreds of years -- and Indy chugged a Grail full before taking it to heal his father. |

-Allen Quartermaine (sp) -Dorian Gray -Captain Nemo (a Sinbad-esque version, but pretty cool) -Invisible man (not the original, but a guy who found his formula after he died) -Doctor Jeckyl (and mister Hyde) -Mina (Vampire chick, who was somehow related to the VanHelsing family) -Agent Sawyer (Basically Tom Sawyer all grown up and working as a special agent for the US govornment. He's the token "yank", basically. They never give his first name, but it's obvious who he represents.) |
