The improved VRH is worth a call-out here: we've been playing with almost exactly this version of VRH[1] and it is an excellent tweak to the advantage. It's particularly attractive to the barbarian types :) but I think other characters will still enjoy it.

[1] We also added on: "Can make one "natural" healing roll a day even if you're running around being an Adventurer instead of convalescing. This roll gets no bonuses from VRH, and recovered HP from this roll are scaled for large HP as usual, but not the extra VRH bonus". This was so good in play for a face-tank[2] that it might actually be an extra 5 point advantage.

[2] "Face-tank" - a person who absorbs incoming damage destined for other players with their face, rather than doing something clever like wearing armor, or parrying.

I think it's thoroughly worth having. What it amounts to is Rapid Healing [5] + HP 10 (Only to increase healing rate, -50%) [10]. You could argue for up to -80% in games without healing everywhere, but in this game, HP are as valuable for this purpose as for soaking damage directly, as healing happens after every fight and Healing spells are penalized when recast on the same person.

A lot of professions have "must-have" advantages that aren't mandatory. You don't have to give your low-armor barbarian either Tough Skin or VRH, or your armored knight Armor Mastery, or your bare-fisted martial artist Unarmed Mastery, but odds are most such delvers will have those traits.

I started using it as soon as I read the DF files for review. Ditto for slam damage. They are inspired simplifications and make both options worth having and easy to use.

Anyone know if the DFRPG Companion books have their own page yet?

Actually I like the way Conan the Barbarian, the movie, handled armour.

No armour in stealth attack and full armour in the open battle.

Yep. I don't think the image of the unarmored barbarian comes from Conan stories nearly as much as from Conan movie posters and Franzetta/Vallejo-type fantasy artwork.

True enough, which is one of the reasons I'm so freakin' thrilled with the production values of the DFRPG boxed set. That artwork will live on and do a lot of selling.
