Make Your Own Ships

The US Navy History and Heritage Command is having their Lego Shipbuilding contest. This year it is virtual - people building at home with their own bricks.

This got me to thinking - from the sea to space, ships are a critical part of many RPGs - at some point sometime in an RPG the characters have to get from point A to point B with no way to get across some obstacle (oceans, terrain to dense/dangerous to cross, or the void) that requires a ship (ocean going, airship, or spacecraft).

It is now, I believe, a viable option to build these vessels with Lego sets. With the newer sets (I got Lego bricks back in the 70s and late 60s as individual bricks in laundry detergent, cereal boxes, etc.), there are even to scale PC and NPC figures, along with enough specialist bricks to make various arcane/sci-fi components (pipes, gears, wheels, etc.).

Just a thought.
