Default Apples to Apples - differant versions

My parents have the Out of the Box Party Box version of Apples to Apples.

I was going to purchase one of the expansions for them, but I was told that the recent Mattel version of the party box has combined the original Party Box and Expansion One and changed the old Expansion Two to be the Mattel branded Expansion One.

Can anyone give me some concrete information on this? Are the Out of the Box and Mattel versions of the game differant?

This is the Card Games forum. Apples to Apples is a card game. I see no problem.

Fair enough, no problem then :D
I thought this was a place to discuss SJG card games. I wouldn't expect great replies to poker questions here either.

Poker would be 100% on topic for this forum. It's not "SJG Card Games" or even "Nontraditional Card Games", after all.

Plus, Apples to Apples was illustrated by John Kovalic, so it makes sense that some of the AtA fans would be on these forums.

And to the OP, I don't know the answer. In fact, I'm hoping someone here does, because I'm interested as well. :)

I think the answer is yes, I believe I heard such at one point, but don't quote me on it.

According to Wikipedia:
Quote:
The original boxed set contained:
  • 108 green cards (green apples) each of which has an adjective printed on one side.
  • 324 red cards (red apples) each of which has a noun printed on one side.
  • A tray for holding the cards.

Four expansion sets were available adding 72 extra green apple cards and 216 extra red apple cards each. In 2002, Expansion Set 3 won the Origins Award for Best Card Game Expansion or Supplement of 2002.

As of 2005, the original set and its expansions have been retired and replaced by a Party Box with the combined contents of the basic set and its first two expansions, and Party Box Expansion 1 set with the combined contents of the third and fourth expansions, and a Party Box Expansion 2, which contains new cards.

On September 7, 2007, Out of the Box Publishing sold the rights for Apples to Apples to Mattel.
From that, it seems to me that the reorganization occurred before the switchover to Mattel, it happened when the "Party Box" came out. So either version of the "Party Box" should be the same. If I'm reading it correctly.
