The production of Mad Max 4: Fury Road has officially been announced.
Mad Max Movies http://www.madmaxmovies.com How is this news related to the Car Wars board game? A well-written Chassis & Crossbow Third Edition rulebook (with many scenarios and mini-scenarios included) might be a good item to have for release when the movie arrives in theaters. State of the art weapons and accessories in Car Wars are fun but I have thought for many years providing more resources for Chassis & Crossbow would likely interest more gamers to Car Wars. Mad Max-style accessories for Hot Wheels and Matchbox die cast cars would make a new Chassis & Crossbow rulebook more interesting. A German miniatures magazine discussed this subject in 1996. Roadwarriors Vehicle Conversion http://www.miniatures.de/roadwarriors.html The d20 V3.0 supplements Redline and d20 Apocalypse have many rules that are useful for Chassis & Crossbow such as salvage tables. The books could probably be converted to Car Wars or GURPS with little effort.

If you want to roleplay Chassis & Crossbow, check out Deadlands: Hell on Earth - specifically, the Road Warriors supplement. It has rules for C&C-style vehicular combat AND vehicle construction. It's one of my favorite non-Car Wars Car Wars books. You can download it from e23, btw :)

I have owned several books in the Deadlands: Hell on Earth series for many years. I agree the automotive combat rules are well-written in the Road Warriors supplement. Thank you for the note about e23 has HoE books.

As far as the Hot Wheels angle goes, Jada already make Battle Machines, including a 1/64 scale big rig (no trailer though).
Being a fan of most things post-apocalyptic, I've always thought Car Wars should be a little grittier than how the compendiums are presented. I definitely didn't dig the way 5th ed was presented. In fact, it's kind of sad that CW doesn't really have any real flavor other than high-tech vehicle combat. |

How about the news and the movie are motivation for creating/running Car Wars scenarios! :-)

Much of the Car Wars flavor text is in the supplements, such as Midville and the AADA Road Atlas series. The compendia are gear books and have less emphasis on societies than on the stuff they make. The same is true for the GURPS tech books-even if there is material on society it's secondary to the toys you get to play with.
Definitions of post-apocalyptic vary, but Car Wars IMO is more in the cyberpunk genre. There are all these big groups which try and keep the people down, massive unemployment, big arcologies, and death sports. Car Wars could be gritter; certainly in the Chassis & Crossbow period you're more post-apocalyptic than in 2050. . .

I'll wait until it actually hits theatres -- I've heard this rumor before.
