Default The single book you would most like to see printed

For me, I'd love to see an Action! book all about crime. Extensive rules for engaging in various criminal acts made along lines similar to the DF rules for being in town, further criminal templates, maybe some kind of special treatment or notes about using social advantages such as contacts and patrons. I'm happy to say that this doesn't really seem all that far fetched.... here's to hoping.

How about you? What single book would you most like to see published for GURPS?

Not so much print, but I would have liked to see Supers in hardback with mostly/full color pages.

A book on the Victorian age. I heard rumors of one, and I would love it if it did come out.

Personally? Vehicles for 4th edition. Other than that, a book or books dedicated to TLs 4, 5, and 6.

High Tech already covers TLs 5 and 6,while Low Tech will include TL4. Or are you looking for something more extensive?

High tech provided a lot of 'Crunch' for TL 5&6 - Equipment, gadgets, ect - I'm more interested in the social and economic aspects of the times, especially with regards to creating an alternate-universe campaign. It's great to have rules, examples, and statistics for equipment, but it's mostly meaningless for world building if you don't have details on the society or cultures into which they fit.

For example, I'm working on a setting where the core TL will be 4, with certain individuals or groups being able to construct and maintain select pieces of up to TL 6 tech or equipment at extreme cost. High tech provides the stats for the high-tech goodies, and Low-Tech will hopefully provide stats for ships, muskets, and cannon apporpriate to TL 4, but I'm more interested in how the setting as a whole works. What kind of culture do the PC's find themselves in? What kind of life do average people of that time period lead? What kind of goods might be availible locally? How does international commerce play out, and how could the PC's affect it? Etc.

At and below TL 3, and most people wind up playing some sort of Low- or High- fantasy game. At TL7 and 8, most people have a good enough memory, and our cultural recollection is strong enough, that we don't have any significant problems creating a believable setting. Past TL 8, and Space, Spaceships, and Ultra-Tech provide plenty of material. Between TL 4 and TL 6, however, most knowledge is restricted to books that we read in high school and the occasional documentary of questionable accuracy and narrow focus.

In light of recent posts, Im starting to think that what needs to be released is a supplement to Basic Set:Campaigns called

Combat, Encounters, Adventures and Campaigns: Game Scope and Balance in the GURPS system

Let it be a Module Design System of two parts:

Story telling : Tropes, Cliches, Archetypes and Narrative. Tellig a story that your players want to hear and that you want to tell. Cover the strengths and weakness of Episodic and story arc type story telling, specifically how each scope fits into the greater one.

Action, Balance, Combat, and Dice: Using the system to chanllenge youor players without killing them or boring them.

I like the Idea of GURPS solving the problem of 'not enough modules' by selling books that teach people to write stories and use the system properly. Then buying premade modules is just a matter of seeing who among us can follow the template and tell the best stories :)

RedRager, it sounds to me like you're looking for the LowTech Companions that will be coming out probably sometime next year. Try doing a search for threads with LowTech in the title, it's all been discussed a bit on the forums. I know I'm looking forward to them quite a bit myself.

Well, that's good to know! Thanks for pointing those out to me. I'll be sure to set aside something for them when they come out.
