When I owned the Starship's Operator Manual for Traveller, it discussed this, at least from a commercial ship perspective.

Essentially, the bridge had the equivalent of one of those coin operated coffee makers in the wall, albeit high tech enough that it could dispense any of a variety of beverages from mixes, hot, cold, flat, spiced or carbonated.

A little cubby next to it allowed the crew to hold their snacks.

microfridge, beverage dispenser, microwave? Not exactly Imp tech and easily available on commercial ships.

Might I humbly suggest investment in a vendobot. Our Marava has the 'Cheekybot', a snack and drink dispensing machine controlled by a malfunctioning and thoroughly obnoxious 'Genuine People Personality'(Hats off to Mr.Adams). 'Fries with that? Fries! I mean have you had a look at yourself in the mirror recently? Is there a mirror on the ship big enough? Do you realise our tonnage has risen since you started tucking into those bags of chocolate smaetals?'. Well it was cheap. Bit of a problem with the touchy High Passage types. Failing that the cargo droid is also programmed to dispense Manhattans! The only time I've ever realy enjoyed Live Action Roleplaying...

Heh. :) Would you prefer "tactical Imperial-grade high-impact magnetic-clamp pressure-resistant beverage container"?

the crew would kick it to much. better an old fashioned vending machine that respects its betters.

I don't see why not. Why not have an adhesive pad on the bottom that is releasable on pushing a trigger-like button in the handle of the mug if you are that worried about spilling in a sudden shaking?

Much better. Although it's contents are equally likely to be smeared across the forward view screen when the captain takes a similar fit of pique! (Perhaps the 'Imperial-grade high-impact' material could be some sort of high-resistance, soft silicon which would be less likely to harm matériel and slow moving yeomen and ensigns?)

I like the "pressure-resistant" part too. "What? Your coffee isn't hot enough while we are all sitting here in our vacc-suits waiting for the missiles to hit us?" <opens lid> "Well look... it's boiling!"

:-)

Another alternative to the spills problem would be specially-formulated coffee, calculated to not interfere with ship's systems, to be easy to clean with the ship's specially-formulated cleaning sprays, and to provide necessary nutrition while not causing strange reactions with standard combat drugs.

Only for use in approved coffee machines.

Lordy, GURPs TL12 Imperial Naval Coffee cups! Think of all the negative modifiers for the raw TL10-11 recruits trying to use them. The spillages, the mess room humiliation, the lack of caffeine stimulus at crucial moments... A crucial part of basic training I'll wager. And adding milk and sugar? The equivalent of a cavemen trying to open a tetrapak and operate a sweetner dispenser! The horror.

Oh, so that's why none of the charts in Citizens of the Imperium (Supplement 4) for the Barbarian profession have Coffee skill on them.

And at least we now know what it means to miss the survival roll. Third-degree burns while pulling away from the fly-thru window in your Air/Raft.
