Default Addiction and Control Rating

I was wondering why the control rating rules used for many mental disadvantages aren't used for addiction and alcoholism in favor of the old system using Will?

The topic threw me off balance for a second . . . Control Rating is a measure of a society's level of interference in the affairs of its citizens. I think you're thinking of "self-control number."

That said, the simple reason is that all drugs and poisons in GURPS rely on attribute rolls. We wanted Addiction to be consistent with this.

My apologies, I couldn't remember what they were called and didn't have the book handy.

This makes them inconsistent with the rest of the compulsive disadvantages, though, and leaves you with the old problem of someone getting the points for taking the disadvantage even if they've bought up Will to make it mostly moot. Also, I really like the gradiation it would give to addictions. For Alcoholism, for example, even though you can't buy it off completely, you could buy it off to lower point costs to represent greater control. I just think it is a lot more elegant than just basing it off Will.
