Default Divorcing Magery from Skill Ranks

Just asking if there is an easy way to remove Magery from the Spell Skill formula? I want it to still be the prerequisite for the spells, just not add to the skill. Thanks

House rule: magery does not affect spell skill. If you do, you should probably also reduce its cost (still 5 for magery 0, but less per added level) or give it an additional function.

I think the question is how can it be done mechanically in the GCA. Does it have to be modified per spell, or something that can be scripted into Magery (or removed for that matter)?

Magery has always been a tough one due to the complexity of tracking Magery with different limitations for different colleges and other limitations. Dropping the following into a custom datafile and adding that data file to your data set should do the trick. Note that I include a place for you to reset the cost of Magery below, you'll need to change the cost(10/20) to whatever cost you desire - my suggestion would be cost(5/10), but that's up to you.

I agree with the price change, all things considered, magery has simply been reduced to a marker of how powerful a mage is.

Maybe I'm just being obtuse, but I imported the code as is into notepad and saved it as a GDF, but when I load it the spells are still counting magery. I load it at the very bottom of my data set.

Any Idea what I'm doing wrong?

Easiest way to have it not impact the level of your Spells is to create a new Advantage called Magery to replace the existing one.

If it's an existing character you will need to resynchronize Attributes and Advantages for the changes to take effect.

Completely forgot about resynchronizing the character, thanks.
