Default Magic Crayon Timing Question

Hi there, my group was playing Munchkin today and had a nice long rule argument about the timing of Magic Crayon.

The card reads it can be played at any time and we all agree it can be used to cancel a monster when kicking open the door.

Once combat starts, can the player still use the Magic Crayon?

In this instance, A Wondering Monster was played to add an additional Monster to the Monster that was behind the kicked open door and an additional Monster Enhancer was played on the Wondering Monster.

The player then used the Magic Crayon to cancel the Monster they kicked open the door. Is this okay to be played at this time since it says at any time?

We played it so the Monster was canceled, but the player still had to defeat the Wondering Monster, but weren't sure if that was correct.

Can someone elaborate on the timing of the Magic Crayon card? Thanks.

Default Re: Magic Crayon Timing Question

This is a bit of a tough one to figure out, I understand. There's a limited time between drawing a card and accepting it, basically, and once that Monster card is put down so that he can fight it, I'm going to say it's too late to say that the card was just drawn and could be replaced with Magic Crayon.
