can you play lose a level in combat?

I moved this to its own thread because I could not find a single way that this was a follow-up to the original question or an answer given to the original question.

As a word to everyone: Please don't post seemingly random questions in just any thread. We try very hard to keep threads singularly focused when at all possible, and questions unrelated to the thread will fracture the discussion. When we can, we move the posts to their own thread, like I did today.
