500-1000. Perhaps 10-20 percent overlapping. One quirk I would like is to have different empires often having outposts on the same planet. That is a change from the normal system where planets are politically unified.

Also I would like considerable unexplored and semi-explored territory with lots of minor factions(undiscovered species, runaway nobles, Space Cossacks, secret projects, barbarians, and maybe even a Sufficiently Advanced Alien or two just to knock everyone on the head). Have a lot of Here There Be Dragons space and make it relevant to the story.

The Oom should probably be included someplace, as they tie into the human splinter cultures/'space-men' quite nicely. I personally prefer them as a 'major race', but I'm going to sit out a vote on that count because I made them.

I guess the thing is its kind of our bottle neck at this point. The things we have left to decide are mostly on a per culture basis, with the exception of that TL you guys keep bugging me about.

Since we're here, what is your complete list of candidates for dominance anyway? (There are indeed very few votes, given that we need at least 5 candidates for the 'Galactic House of Lords' to pick from.)

Ericthered: the option to vote in a hypothetical, not-yet-posted race seems a good choice given the situation.

Yeah, we'll have a few "some sort of ___ -like humanoid". And yes, complete lists of candidates for dominance are very much in order. If something has been seconded already, saying it again won't hurt or help (so don't feel obligated to either mention the favorites or look up what in so far).

The alien doesn't have to be on the alien submission thread. you can just nominate them.

Also, I will be throwing in a few that may not have been nominated if we don't get enough on the list.

People travel through space and live on different planets, but how many actually live on space stations and planets where to step outdoors unprotected in to loose your oxygen?

1 vote. Please be aware this varies greatly by species. we are talking feel of the setting, not iron clad rules.

1) Very Rare

2) Most Planets have a station

3) Stations used as harbours.

4) Cities orbit habitable planets, and very rich mines are inhabited where ever they are.

If each following one includes the one before it I vote for number four.
