Default Comic-Con Co-Founder Richard Alf Died

Richard Alf co-founded what's now known as the San Diego Comic-Con International back in 1970. He died at age 59 of pancreatic cancer. He just learned of the cancer in December and by then it was sadly already advanced.

Alf, Shel Dorf, Mike Towry, and others put together the first small convention, and Alf chaired the event in 1971. Since 1970 it's grown to have 125,000 attendees, many of them gamers.

If you are a comic book fan or gamer who lives or lived in Southern California, you've probably been there (I have). It's gotten so popular it is now sometimes completely sold out, and may have to move to a larger location in Anaheim.

Alf also founded the Comic Kingdom shop in North Park. He will be missed.
