Trojan Horse confusion
The Trojan Horse card is something like the Wandering Monster card in that it lets you play a monster into someone else's combat. But here's the situation that we had:
Player A (Level 4) Fights Monster X, defeats it. Player B then plays Trojan Horse and Monster Y, which has a "Will Not Pursue Level 4 or Below" statement. Player A is unable to defeat the monster at this time, and MUST run away. Now, Did Player A gain a level from the Monster X, thereby becoming Level 5 and now forced to actually roll to run away? Or is Player A still level 4 and can run away from Monster Y without penalty? |

Re: Trojan Horse confusion
The Trojan Horse's basic effect is to deprive you of the original Monster's Treasure. If played with a Monster, you must fight the new Monster, but since the previous Monster was defeated, you should get the Level(s). Now, this ruling is based on the original rules, unfortunately, which basically had getting Treasure from defeated Monster(s) as part of the Loot The Room phase. Based on the new rules, getting your Treasure and Level come at the same time, essentially, creating a what happens first situation. The rules do say, to go up a level, then take Treasure, so I'm going to take them at that and say that your friend was Level 5 and had to actually roll to Run Away from the bigger Monster and got no Treasure whatsoever. Andrew will have to tell me if I got this one wrong under the new rules, however.

Re: Trojan Horse confusion
Trojan Horse is a weird one. The way I'd rule it is that you did kill the first monster but you never technically exited combat, so you don't get the level for the first monster until you deal with the second one.

Re: Trojan Horse confusion
Of course, I should probably have done a search to make sure I didn't stomp on an old ruling that I failed to remember. :-)

Re: Trojan Horse confusion
So this card can be played when a player is level 9, just killed a monster and trojan horse prevents him to reach level 10 unless he kills the new monster too?

Re: Trojan Horse confusion
No, because then it's already too late. This use of the card is after he has killed the monster, but before he gets Treasures.

Quote:
1. Kill the monster. 2. Get the level. 3. Collect the treasure and leave the room. Another but less logical thought would be: 1. Kill the monster. 2. Collect the treasure. 3. Get the level as you leave the room. I am confused cause i searched also old threads about it. http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread...t=trojan+horse |
