If a player loses his ability of race or class, does he lose his gear.

Now I. E to what I want to know.

Player turns over trap on star munchkin. It says player loses ability of race until he gives up his class or discards his whole hand.

Player did not want to do either, which is fine. But he did have equipment equipped that pertained to the races ability. Item can only be equipped by mutant for example.

Does he get to keep that gear? Or does the player lose the gear?
