Additional background? The folks on the rock a bunch of transhumanists who went and snagged the black hole, and decided to sit there in the outer solar system. More privacy, and less likely you'll have the minions of one of the big players trying to beat your door down, figuratively speaking. The ship that was visiting (assuming you don't all decide to play residents of the station, in which case you'll be testing out the drive in the ship that brought you to the body in the first place) was proably your generic Gypsy Angel freighter/icy body miner, with the relatively typical crew for such a vessel. Well, as typical as a crew of transhumans can be, anyway.

The reason the disadvantage limit is so high for the setting is because you're likely to have performed a number of modifications on yourselves, most of which would have had unintended negative side effects.
