... Just don't use one with a glass platter. Either replace it with a microwave-safe plastic, or use one of the microwaves that don't use a turntable at all because they have an internal "mixer bar" that evens out the heating. About as well as the turntable does, anyways. The mixer bar isn't glass, and it's better shielded from environmental conditions.
I'd never seen a microwave with a turn table until I moved out, and my mother had THREE in the kitchen (serious believer in microwave cooking). I get the impression they're a little more expensive, but I've since seen so many turntables break and I haven't seen a microwave with a mixer break.
