Tacking on Blindness for +10 base energy and quadrupling damage (to account for a brain hit) is likely going to be significantly cheaper, yeah. You
may need to tack on a Destroy Body effect, but that's up the GM - Fireball To The Face! can probably get away with just Greater Create Energy, for example.
