But still, you are reducing the point cost of the "ally" because the "ally" is just a sword. Now, I guess this isn't an issue if I define the Ally how I want, but still, the point cost could be very low.
So let's say I wanted to do this, how would you build a trait that makes the "ally" into a sword that does sw+3 damage when wielded by another PC? ST-based innate attack, right?
I think this could work, but I'll need to look at Thaumatology, of course.
