Default Cars Wars 6E - What We Know - 1st Post will be updated over time

Because I hate delving through pages and pages of posts to find key bits of information...

I'll update this first post as more info becomes available.

General
  • 2019 Kickstarter for the Car Wars products, with a 2019-2020 scheduled delivery to backers
  • "Matchbox" (1:64) Scale - cars are ~3 inches long
  • Set in 2118
  • AADA, Uncle Al, and Gold Cross will return
  • Totally new setting - they are starting from scratch
  • SJG Miniatures will be plastic - 60+ cars at launch - 36 in the KS
  • Some background is already appearing in Pyramid
  • Initial focus on a single car - running a team will come in expansions
  • Cycle and truck expansions will be done for each faction
  • Pedestrians and continuing characters will also be done eventually
  • Game uses custom dice for the various rolls
  • Starter set will have enough dice for any roll a car will need to make - expansions that add the need for more dice will have extra
  • Design goals are "Cars. With. Guns." and blowing things up" and "Cinematic realism and fun"
  • Target game length is 60 minutes for a 4-player game
  • An "All In" pledge level is going to be hundreds of dollars - big!
Game Rules
  • Game will have "maneuvering sticks" - may interact with the car base as well - currently in playtest
  • Game will have a "clix-like" dashboard for keeping track of all aspects of your car in one place
  • Maneuvers will use "white" or "red" (harder) dice
  • Roll maneuver dice = speed + maneuver difficulty. Goal is zero skids.
  • Skid results mean your next maneuver starts to go out of control
  • Weapons roll a certain number of attack dice - hit, double-hit, and miss results are possible
  • Defense dice based on speed and equipment - armor and gadgets
  • Certain drivers and abilities allow you to modify the dice
Car Design
  • Uses cards (non-collectable) to build cars
  • Cards have point values - thus Div 10 car has 10 points
  • Weapons, Armor, and Crew type cards - at least
  • Crew cards will have generic and named characters
  • Products will have pre-built card sets, but then you can mix and match cards to create your own designs
  • New car packs will introduce new cards/gear
  • Sets will have one complete deck per player
12 Factions
  • 6 will be "wasteland" - representing gangs, clans, etc.
  • 6 will be "arena" - representing dueling teams, corporations, etc.
  • Factions will be color coded
  • Each will have a style
  • They will have unique tech
  • With "over 60" cars in the initial release, we can infer about 5 cars per faction at launch
  • SJG will build upon them
Initial Products
  • Two-player Wastelands Starter
  • Two-player Arenas Starter
  • Four-player Car Wars game
  • Faction Pack (3 cars, cards, & tokens) $19.95
  • Arena and Highway play sets - with mats and plastic terrain
  • Scenario Decks - packs of game cards for specific scenarios that can also be mixed into custom car design
  • Anthology Set - will have the book, some cars and 12 new cards
Fiction
  • James Lowder will edit first fiction anthology - 12 stories - November Kickstarter - will also include 12 game cards
  • There will be a comic book with game material in each issue
News
  • Previews will be given at the Retailer Open House on October 3rd
  • Daily Illuminator will announce the playtest
  • Playtesting in Austin will start in October
  • Game release has been delayed till 2019 to allow SJG to complete other commitments and do the job right
  • Phil says that this will go into 2019
