I would probably draw a line at using it to punch and still getting the DB if you're using it with Brawling. And then just be lenient, i.e. no need to pay points. If you don't have Buckler at all, maybe you'll start with a familiarity penalty. And if you've got Improsived Weapons(Brawling), not even that.

But, yeah, bashing with Brawling while still using it defensively (i.e. Ready to Block and with a DB) sounds like a good case for an Adaption perk.
