And as an added note, there are very few Hirelings that are Items. The Budget Steed is the only Hireling which is also an Item from the Fantasy sets.

And there are exceptions for Steeds too, as only those with Big on their cards are actually Big. The Horse Shoes can be used as a Steed, but they are not Big and can be stolen. I believe many of the Vehicles from Munchkin Impossible are also not Big, so any of those Small ones can be stolen too in a blended game.
