The man doesn't loosen his grip, but lets Julian get his feet... and possibly grab the diary if he's quick about it. Julian's initial dodge failed... the man doesn't seem to begrudge him that. Yet.
"You will come with us. Where are you from?" The question seems less about getting to know Julian and more serious, as though its somehow critical to the man's life.
